Road crews will take a break during the Independence Day holiday.
Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation say road work will cease until the morning hours of Wednesday, July 5. Road restrictions will be removed in select areas to ease the flow of traffic during the holiday. Some closures and restrictions will remain on larger projects. Contractors will reposition barriers and barricades to accommodate the increase in traffic.

Local police officers and state police troopers will be out in full force targeting impaired drivers. Sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols and saturation patrols are planned.
A section of State Road 49 in Porter County will be closed to through traffic for the next two weeks. Starting today, the road will be closed between U.S. 20 and U.S. 12 so crews can dig up and replace a section of roadway. 
City, town and county officials are invited to a meeting later this month at the INDOT LaPorte District office to learn more about available sources of road funding.
April marks the beginning of the highway construction season. The Indiana Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down in construction zones.
Motorists heading to Kentucky or Ohio will now have to pay a toll. Starting today tolling will begin on the new SR 265 Lewis and Clark Bridge, the new 1-65 Abraham Lincoln Bridge and the improved I-65 Kennedy Bridge. 
INDOT recommends residents along state and U.S. highways take advantage of the break in the weather to ready their mailboxes for winter’s next blast. 
The Knox City Council last night unanimously approved a name recommendation for 150 South. It’s the street that runs between Roosevelt Road and South Heaton Street past the Knox bus barn. The city recently used Community Crossings grant money from the state to connect the two ends. 
The Starke County Highway Department continues to make progress with bridge replacements and upgrades. The new bridge on 250 West over Bogus Run, just south of Toto Road, should be finished this week, according to county highway superintendent Rik Ritzler.
