Kathleen Holt pleaded guilty in Starke Circuit Court this afternoon to murdering her boyfriend at the home they shared in Knox, shooting him to death as he lay sleeping in his bed in the afternoon with a handgun. The sentence was to be argued as per the plea agreement, and Judge Kim Hall heard witnesses from the state and arguments from both the defense and prosecution to assist him in deciding on an appropriate sentence from a minimum of 45 years to a maximum of 55 years.

Plea Agreement Proposed for Murder Suspect Kathleen Holt

The Starke County prosecutor and the attorneys for Kathleen Holt have reached a proposed plea agreement.

Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff stated that the agreement has yet to be reduced to writing and to be heard in a formal court setting. The proposed agreement would have Holt pleading guilty to a charge of Murder with a minimum sentence of 45 years and the maximum sentence of 55 years. As part of the plea agreement, she would be giving up her right to appeal the sentence.

Murder Suspect’s Court Date Delayed

A Second pretrial conference and plea agreement deadline date in the case of Kathleen Holt has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 11 at 8 a.m. in Starke Circuit Court.

The extension was requested by the defense last week in an effort to consider an evaluation to determine if Kathleen Holt is competent to stand trial. Court officials indicated that the jury trial has not been reset at this time.

A Starke County woman police say fatally shot her boyfriend in the chest at their rural Knox home last week remains in jail. Bond was denied for Kathleen Holt, 51. She reportedly called 911 after shooting Ron Worker on Feb.13 and confessed to the crime. Holt pleaded not guilty during her initial court appearance last Friday. She faces up to 55 years in prison if she’s convicted. Investigators with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office have yet to release a motive in the shooting. Holt’s trial is set to start May 22.

Starke County Murder Case Remains Under Investigation

Starke County police continue to piece together information to find a motive in a shooting incident that occurred at a Knox home Wednesday afternoon. Kathleen Holt, 51, is suspected of shooting Ron Worker in their home on 550 East.

An initial hearing has been set for Holt this morning at 9 a.m. in Starke Circuit Court. Worker sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to IU Health Starke Hospital where he later died.

Police arrest Knox woman on murder charge

A Knox woman is jailed on a murder charge after reportedly shooting her boyfriend. Kathleen Holt, 51, shot the victim, Ron Worker, 46, also of Knox at a residence on CR 550 E. Near CR 200 S. in Knox around 3:30 p.m. Hold called 911 and told Starke County dispatchers she had just shot her boyfriend, according to police. Worker was was pronounced dead at IU Health Starke Hospital. An autopsy is scheduled later today. Holt’s bond hearing is set for 9 a.m. Friday. Police have recovered the weapon they believe was used in the shooting.
