Area School Musicians Perform Well in Competitions

 The North Judson-San Pierre High School Band participated in the annual Indiana State School Music Association Organizational Contest on Friday, April 19th at Northridge High School in Middlebury. They earned a Gold Rating.

The Knox High School Band performed this Saturday, April 13 at Kankakee Valley High School in ISSMA High School Organizational Contest. The band was among 19 bands all with hopes of Gold ratings in both performance and sight reading. Knox received Gold ratings in both performance and sight reading. This caps an amazing winter season for the Instrumental Music and Dance Department where all winter ensembles provided stellar performances at their respective State competitions.

Harlem Wizards Come to Knox!

The Harlem Wizards came to Knox last night appearing in a fundraiser for the Knox High School Band. Money raised was to be used for a band trip to Florida.

While the Wizards play almost every night, some of the “ringers” rounded up by Coach Craige Phipps left a little to be desired. Tom Berg tried to keep up with the Wizards star guard who was simply known as “The Roadrunner.”

Drew Shearin’s Music to be Recognized

The music of a Knox High School student who was killed in an auto accident last Fall will be featured at the Indiana Music Educators Association annual Professional Development Conference in Fort Wayne this afternoon.

Drew Shearin, one of the Drum Majors for the Knox High School band, will be recognized for the second time by the IMEA.  Last year, he was recognized for his instrumental composition called “Uncertainty” which was performed by the Lafayette Jefferson High School Orchestra.  Today, he will be recognized as the winner in the Choral Division for a work entitled “The Sweetest Air is Most Often the Thickest”.  His composition will be performed by the Butler University Chorale.

Knox Middle and High School Bands Present Holiday Concerts

Knox Middle School and High School bands presented their holiday concert on Wednesday, December 8th.  The bleachers were filled with parents, friends, and loved ones as the 6th, 7th and 8th graders students, along with the the Knox Tomahawk Jazz Band and the High School bands, played Christmas favorites.  Mr. Craige Phipps and Mr. David Elliott directed the bands.  The Band Boosters held a raffle for several items including a Wii game console.  Santa Claus stopped at Weinberg Gymnasium to visit with children at the end of the concert.
