La Porte Police Department Participates in Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign resulted in 18 citations and 7 arrests by the La Porte Police Department over a 25-day-period. Approximately 220 law-enforcement agencies across the state had overtime patrols supported through federal highway safety funds administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
La Porte Police Captain Pat Hemphill said these extra enforcement efforts help save the lives of impaired drivers, their passengers and others out on the road. He stated that officers in the La Porte Police Department are committed year-round to keeping roads as safe as possible. Continue reading
Siren Test Scheduled for La Porte County Today
A test of the La Porte County Emergency Warning siren system is scheduled for today.
During the test two one-minute signals will sound, with one minute of silence in between signals.
If it were an actual emergency a three-minute signal would sound with a short period of silence between signals, repeated one or more times, to warn residence and visitors.
Traffic Restrictions for Today’s YMCA Triathlon
Today the La Porte County Family YMCA is hosting it’s 35th annual Triathlon starting at Soldier’s Memorial Park. It is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The course includes roads located inside Soldiers Memorial Park, those bordering the park, and Small Road from Garden Street to County Road 700 West. Free Cervical and Breast Cancer Screenings Available
The IU Health La Porte and Starke hospitals’ mobile health clinic is offering free cervical and breast cancer screenings in the area. Screenings are held inside the mobile health unit, which has two private exam rooms.
Screenings will take place in Knox from 8 a.m. until noon, on Aug. 1, in North Judson from 9 a.m. until noon on Aug. 6 and in La Porte from 9 a.m. until Noon on Aug. 17.
