A LaPorte man was arrested Sunday after a hit-and-run accident.

The victim told police that she and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Joshua Creed, had an argument while driving home. She exited the vehicle and called her male friend to pick her up. When the man came to pick her up, she saw Creed sitting in his vehicle across the street.

LaPorte Police Respond to Three Alcohol-Related Crashes

 
 
The LaPorte City Police Department arrested three people in two days in three separate alcohol-related accidents.

On Friday, LaPorte police responded to investigate an accident where an SUV ran into a house and a NIPSCO meter. Jose Carillo-Muro, 21, of LaPorte was arrested on preliminary charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Driving While Never Licensed. No injuries were reported.

LaPorte Man Arrested on Domestic Battery Charges

 
 
A LaPorte man was arrested after police responded to a domestic abuse report in LaPorte on Sunday. At approximately 11:33 a.m., police visited the residence to investigate a citizen’s report of a man battering a woman at the home, and as they walked up to the residence, they could hear yelling inside and saw a small child appear in the window who appeared upset and was crying.

Van Stolen After Man Brings Woman Home From Party

A man got more than he bargained for this weekend after he met a black female at a party in South Bend and decided to bring her back to La Porte to “spend more time together,” according to his statement to police. On Saturday, June 15 around 3:05 a.m., police received a call that a van had been stolen and quickly responded to the home where they spoke with the complainant.

LaPorte Man Arrested after Alleged Assault

A LaPorte man was arrested Monday after he allegedly assaulted another person.

The victim told LaPorte police that he was driving on W. 10th St. when a vehicle passed him on the left and pulled in front of him. The victim stopped suddenly to avoid a rear-end collision. The victim recognized the suspect who ran back to the victim’s car after stopping. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old William McDaniel of LaPorte, allegedly opened the driver’s door and began to assault the victim. McDaniel was reportedly attempting to grab the keys from the ignition. The victim was able to fight off McDaniel but found his keys to be missing from the ignition.

LaPorte City PD Investigate Scam

  
 

The LaPorte City Police Department is investigating a scam.

A 59-year-old LaPorte man told police that he received a phone call from “Walter Lopez” and said he was calling on behalf of Publishers Clearinghouse. “Lopez” told the victim that he was the winner of a $250,000 cash prize and a new vehicle. In order to claim the prize, the victim was asked to obtain a PayPal card in the amount of $350 and call “Lopez” back with the card number. “Lopez” claimed this was a service fee.

LaPorte Police Working on Safety in the Month of May

 
 

The LaPorte City Police Department will be involved in an Operation Pullover Blitz from May 17 to June 2.

Officers will be working overtime to enforce seat belt laws, especially during the Memorial Day holiday. More than 100 hours will be devoted to patrolling the streets to make sure travelers are buckled in safely. Traffic safety is the number one priority during the Memorial Day holiday.

LaPorte City OPO Results in 13 Arrests

 
 
The LaPorte City Police Department completed its two-week Operation Pullover Blitz #74 Sunday.

The target was aggressive and impaired drivers. Officers worked 70.5 hours of impaired driving patrols and 85 hours of aggressive driving patrols. Six misdemeanor arrests and one felony arrest for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated were made. Six criminal arrests were made including Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Legend Drug. Police made 234 citations and gave 186 warnings during the blitz.

Operation Pullover is a federally funded enforcement initiative administered by the Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

LaPorte Man Arrested, Charged with Child Solicitation

 
 
An Indiana State Police detective arrested a LaPorte man Friday on charges of Child Solicitation following an investigation with a Florida sheriff’s department.

Early Friday afternoon, Indiana State Police Detective Jennifer Richmond, assigned to the Crimes Against Children unit, arrested Christopher Albin, 23 of LaPorte, at his residence at 808 Virginia Avenue on charges of Child Solicitation as a Class C felony.

LaPorte Man Arrested after Robbery Incident

A bank robbery suspect was arrested quickly after a robbery incident occurred at a Fifth Third Bank branch in LaPorte Thursday morning.

Detectives from the LaPorte City Police Department and officers from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department were given a description of the suspect and through a collaborative effort with bank employees, the suspect, 32-year-old Ryan S. Mounts, of LaPorte, was quickly apprehended.

LaPorte Sees Increase In Vehicular Accidents Over Last Year

The LaPorte City Police Department investigated several accidents in July. Forty-three were property damage accidents while 18 were personal injury accidents. This is an increase from July 2011.

This month, the LaPorte City Police Department will be doing more to enforce the seat belt laws. Thirty hours of Big City/Big County-funded seat belt patrols will be conducted and the police department will also participate in Operation Pull Over Blitz #72. Hundreds of other police agencies will be participating in this pull over event that will focus on impaired driving. Operation Pull Over Blitz #72 runs Aug. 17 through Sept. 3.
