SCILL Center

The SCILL Center is hosting a coat drive. Director Jerry Gurrado, said drop off sites are at the Oregon-Davis High School, Ray’s Super Foods in North Judson, Pioneer Florist in North Judson, Five Star in Knox, Key Bank in Knox, and Baileys.

“We’re still in the process of organizing the event, but people from Love, INC and a couple of other organizations are helping to work with us on maybe getting some church organizations, or volunteers from the community, to wash the coats and then we’ll have distribution sites. There will be no questions asked, whether it be children’s coats or adult coats. Come pick them up and take them. We’re happy to be able to help in any way we can,” said Gurrado.

Love Inc. Moves Closer to the Second Phase of its Mission

Wendy Medborn
Wendy Medborn

Wendy Medborn, Executive Director of Love Inc. spoke with WKVI’s Ted Hayes this week and said the organization is close to entering into the second phase of the mission.

“This phase is where we do long-term counseling,” explained Medborn. “Whether it’s finances, a job, career, cooking or marriage, it’s something that we’re going to try and get started in the community. Other Love Inc. organizations do that. It takes a lot of volunteers and it takes a lot of people needing that specific need and it is usually a year-long process. We’re doing small, little things that maybe take a week, or a couple weeks, or a month trying to learn but that is part of phase two that we’re working on.”

At the top of the organization’s agenda is leading people to Christ.

“When we talk with our clients, we pray with them right on the phone,” said Medborn. “We tell them, ‘God loves you and He sees you and He’s going to see you through this situation’. We continue to guide them in that. If they don’t belong to a church, we ask them if a pastor come out and talk to them and pray with them.   The church is to support you, encourage you and help you get on your feet. We just walk with them day by day.”

Love Inc. is dedicated to offering a helping hand in a time of need.

SCILL Center Staff and Students Encourage Community to Participate in Coat Drive

Mark Anderson
Mark Anderson

The SCILL Center staff and students are collecting coats for children and adults this holiday season.

“Anybody that has a good, used coat that they’d like to drop off, rather than take to Goodwill or put in a yard sale, you may donate it during this coat drive,” said SCILL Center Instructor, Mark Anderson. “In Knox, you can drop them off at Community Services of Starke County, Davis Auto, Integrity Skill in the Knox Mall, Starke United, or the WIC office. In North Judson, you can drop them off at Love INC., Bailey’s, or there’s a box at the North Judson Plaza. When we accumulate all of the coats, we’re going to take them to the Knox Schools and they have names of people throughout the community and a lot of students that need these coats and they’re going to disburse them. We’d like to try and end the program on December 5th.”

Love Inc. Ministries Hold Successful Fundraiser

Can you believe this?  The Love Inc. Ministries sold 750 dozen cookies during their bazaar on Saturday. We wouldn’t have believed it either if director Wendy Medborn had not told us herself. What a great accomplishment and all of the money raised goes to the ministries programs in the community.

Love Inc.’s food drive gathered 40 grocery carts of food on Saturday. Food was taken to Ray’s Super Foods, N.J. Foods and Dollar General.  All of the food was taken to the Food Pantry in North Judson.

Wendy asked us to thank everyone who contributed to both efforts.
