$5,000 Scholarship Offered in Social Media Contest

Drive now text laterA social media post about the dangers of texting and driving could land a student a scholarship toward post-secondary education.

Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann is encouraging high school and college students to put together a campaign on social media to drive now and text later. Texting while driving is illegal in the state, but it’s not preventing drivers to type a message. Cell phones are a constant in the world, but it’s best to wait to check or type text messages until after you reach your destination.

Lt. Governor Visits Officials in Starke County

  
 
Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann was in Starke County yesterday to speak with elected officials and business and agriculture officials. She met with them at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox.

The Lt. Governor is on a “Listen and Learn” tour. She plans to stop in all 92 counties and speak to these groups of people to gather information on what is and isn’t successful in counties plus issues and priorities so a better partnership can be built between the individual counties and the state. She has already visited 27 counties, including Starke County, since she started this initiative in May.

State Creates New Office in Effort to Serve Entrepreneurs, Small Business

In an effort to realign state efforts to better serve entrepreneurs and small business owners, Governor Mike Pence and Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann on Thursday announced the establishment of the Office of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, signing Executive Order 13-17 to establish the agency.

The office will house two centers and a number of specialty programs. The Small Business Development Center and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center will work to provide integrated resources and consulting services to businesses in Indiana that have fewer than 500 employees.
