A LaPorte construction company will replace a bridge in Koontz Lake after submitting the lowest of six bids for the work. JCI Bridge Group bid $177,367.06 to replace the bridge on County Road 1000 East. Commissioners opened the bids during their Monday meeting. JCI’s price for the work was the lowest, and Gariup Construction Company from Gary submitted the highest bid at $327,700. Mark Wilson of JPR reviewed the six bids to make sure they were in order and recommended the commissioners award the project to JCI Bridge Group. The project is scheduled to begin on June 1 and continue for 90 days.
Starke Commissioners Approve Engineering Work for Bridge 43
Another Starke County bridge is soon to be repaired, as the commissioners this week gave their approval to sign paperwork for the engineering aspect of the repairs on Bridge 43, located near Koontz Lake. Mark Wilson with engineering firm Jones, Petrie, and Rafinski approached the commissioners with paperwork to be signed for the go-ahead on the engineering study.
Sentences Given in Starke Circuit Court
Facing two separate criminal cases in the Starke Circuit Court, 41-year-old Mark Wilson of Grovertown was present for his plea and sentencing hearing before Judge Kim Hall.
In his first case, Wilson was charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine, a Class B Felony. As part of a plea agreement, other charges against him, Possession of Precursors and Possession of Marijuana, were dismissed.
Search Warrant Uncovers Several Meth Labs at Grovertown Residence
Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Grovertown man Tuesday afternoon after officers located meth labs on his property.
A search warrant was executed at 1820 N. 1100 E. in Grovertown and the officers found several meth labs inside the residence. Officers also reportedly found precursors used to make methamphetamine.
