Marshall County Police Investigating Residential Burglary

 
 

The Marshall County Police Department is investigating a recent burglary at a home in the 17000 block of 12th Road. Sometime between 6 and 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21 someone broke into the residence and stole two diamond rings and currency, according to the property owner. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Marshall County Police Department.

A habitual traffic violator who is accused of fleeing from police Friday night in Marshall County faces numerous charges. A Marshall County Police patrolman tried to stop a pickup truck on Queen Road north of State Road 110 just before 10 p.m., according to a news release. The truck driver, later identified as Wayne Nichols, led the officer on a short pursuit. Continue reading

A Friday night traffic stop in Marshall County for an equipment violation ended with a trip to jail after officers learned the driver was wanted in another county. A Marshall County Police Patrolman pulled a vehicle driven by Preston Smith over on Lincoln Highway near Tulip Road at 7:19 p.m. Smith was driving without having received a license, according to a police department news release. He was also wanted on a St. Joseph County warrant for sexual misconduct.

Patrolman Arrests Occupants of Stuck Vehicle

 
 

A pair of men whose vehicle got stuck in the mud ended up in jail Monday night after a Marshall County Police patrolman stopped to lend them a hand. The officer found the vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Sycamore Road, according to a news release. The driver, Jack William Clemons, 27, was arrested for driving while suspended. His passenger, Gilberto Canul, faces a false informing charge. The arrest report indicates he gave the officer a fake name.

Sheriff’s Department Releases More Information About High-Speed Pursuit

 
 

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department has released more information about a high-speed pursuit that started near Grovertown and ended in Marshall County. A sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a vehicle on U.S. 30 west of 1200 East, but the driver kept going. He finally stopped at 1100 East but put his car into reverse when the officer got out of his patrol vehicle. The suspect backed into the police car, causing the vehicle to strike the deputy. Michigan Man Jailed After Early Morning High-Speed Chase

A Niles, Mich. man who led Marshall County Police on a high-speed chase through downtown Lapaz early this morning is in jail. A patrolman spotted a car southbound on U.S. 31 at speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour at 2:17 a.m. The officer tried to stop the 2008 Audi, according to a news release, but the driver continued down 31 at speeds greater than 100 miles per hour. Argos Woman Faces Criminal Charge for Abandoning Dog

Marshall County Humane SocietyAn Argos woman authorities in Marshall County say dumped a terrier mix dog in front of a house on 19th Road last week faces an animal cruelty charge. Police say Kim Paul brought the female dog to the Marshall County Humane Society on Wednesday, July 16 and said she no longer wanted the animal. Employees there told her the shelter was full. An Argos man faces drunk driving and drug possession charges after an early morning traffic stop in Lapaz. A Marshall County Police Officer pulled a vehicle driven by Victor Rundberg, 51, over at on Michigan Street near Vandalia Street around 1:20 a.m. A police department news release indicates he failed a certified test and was in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine. Rundberg was booked into the Marshall County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, operating a vehicle while intoxicated controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

A woman police say came to the Marshall County Jail early Sunday morning to post bond for a prisoner wound up back there as an inmate a short time later. According to a news release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, several people came to the jail at 4:15 a.m. As they were leaving about 20 minutes later, a jail staffer noticed one or more of them was possibly drunk. Traffic Stop Lands Lapaz Man in Jail

 
 

A Lapaz man faces a felony drug offense after an officer from the Marshall County Police Department pulled his car over for an equipment violation. James A. McMichael Jr. was stopped just after midnight on Friday, June 20 at the intersection of U.S. 31 and U.S. 6, according to a news release. The officer who pulled him over noted a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was allegedly in possession of marijuana. Police say McMichael failed several field sobriety tests and a certified chemical test at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. He’s charged with operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated controlled substance.

A valuable member of the Marshall County law enforcement community now has a bulletproof vest. K9 Arras was one of 350 police dogs selected by nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9’s Inc. They provide working dogs with appropriate safety equipment to protect them while they are working on the streets. Each vest bears a tag in memory of K9 Rocco of the Pittsburgh Police Department. He sacrificed his life in the line of duty in January. Continue reading

Plymouth Man Arrested on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

A Plymouth man faces felony drug charges following a traffic stop early Saturday morning. An officer from the Marshall County Police Department stopped a car driven by David Rhoades, 25, at the on Oakhill near the intersection of Nutmeg Road around 2 a.m. County Police K9 Arras indicated the presence of drugs in the vehicle, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department. Officers searched the vehicle and reportedly found a substance believed to be heroin, needles and other paraphernalia. Rhoades refused a certified drug test and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a syringe, operating a vehicle while intoxicated controlled substance and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person.
