Driver Arrested after Accident Investigation

 
 

A Tennessee driver was arrested after a two vehicle accident in Marshall County Saturday night.

Marshall County sheriff’s deputies were called to the intersection of State Road 8 and State Road 17. John Halloway, 48, of Chattanooga, Tennessee told police that he saw two vehicles traveling south on State Road 17 pull into the turn lane to continue west onto State Road 8. He told officers that he did not see a motorcycle behind those cars and pulled out into the intersection, according to the police report. Halloway stated that he struck the motorcycle on the right side and caused it to fall.

One Injured in Accident in Washington Township

A woman was injured after an accident in Washington Township Wednesday night.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was driving at a high rate of speed on 700 E. just north of 25 N. in Starke County. She reportedly went off the roadway by the Eagle Creek Cemetery and hit the fence. This caused her vehicle to spin around and hit a tree. Her car came to rest against another portion of the cemetery’s fence. She was taken to IU Health Starke Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident and later transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Stacie Brown Sentenced

Stacie Brown

Stacie Brown, 35, of Knox, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for causing the death of her stepson, three-year-old Ethan Brown on June 9th, 2011.

Knox Police Department Detective David Combs was on the witness stand almost two hours describing the case in detail. Brown had been charged with one felony count of battery resulting in death. Another count of Neglect of a Dependent was dropped in a plea bargain arrangement.

Demotte Man Injured in Single Vehicle Accident in Starke County

Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and emergency personnel were called to a personal injury accident on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred on Highway 421 south of San Pierre by the south junction of State Road 10. Carey Foley, 56, of Demotte, was traveling in that area when for some unknown reason, he passed out, left the roadway, hit a tree, hit a utility pole and then hit another tree and came to rest. Foley was pinned in the vehicle and the San Pierre and North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Departments were called to the scene to assist with extrication. Foley was airlifted from the scene to Memorial Hospital in South Bend and his condition is unknown at this time.

LaPaz Man Arrested after Moped Accident in Koontz Lake

A Lapaz man was arrested by Starke County police after his passenger suffered injuries in a single moped accident in the Koontz Lake area last night.

According to police, Donald Kissinger was traveling along County Road 1200 East on his moped and he told police that he swerved to miss a deer and lost control of the moped causing the passenger, Teresa Clark, to fall off the moped. When she fell off, she struck her head on the roadway. She was transported to Walkerton High School where a med flight took her to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she remains in critical condition with a head injury.
