Soup for the Soul Event at Culver Schools a Success

Even though the temperatures approached the 80 degree mark, the Culver community turned out last night for a piping hot bowl of soup. It was the annual Soup for the Soul promotion put on by sixth grade students at Culver Elementary.

This year, the proceeds will be going to the food pantries in all four counties that feed students into the Culver school system, as well as the Davis family in the Oregon-Davis system who have a youngster waiting on a medical procedure for which they need funding.

Culver Sixth Graders Prepare Soup for the Soul Event

Sixth graders in Culver have been busy preparing for the annual Soup for the Soul event that will be held tomorrow from 5:00-8:00 p.m. ET at the school cafeteria.

“The kids start making bowls in August,” said sixth grade teacher, Missy Trent. “Culver restaurants donate soup and we sell the bowls. You then get all of the soup you can eat, plus bread and drink for $5.00.”

Culver 6th Grade Students Collect Food for Food Pantry

Culver Elementary sixth grade teacher, Missy Trent, believes that students need to learn more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. Each year, Ms. Trent instructs the students in her class to do an outside project for the community.

One sixth grader came to the teacher recently and said he had noticed a call out for food by the Culver Food Pantry. So this student took matters into his own hands and organized a dance for the pantry. Miss Trent talks about the event that was held last Wednesday night.
