State Road 23 to Close in Starke County for Railroad Work

The CF&E Railroad will rebuild the railroad crossing on State Road 23 just south of the intersection with U.S. 30 in Grovertown.

Work is expected to begin today and continue through Friday, Aug. 3. The road will be closed from U.S. 30 to the East Yellowstone Trail.

The official INDOT detour takes drivers on state-maintained roads. Southbound drivers on State Road 23 will be detoured west on U.S. 30, south on U.S. 35 and east on State Road 8 back to State Road 23. Northbound drivers on State Road 23 will be detoured west on State Road 8, north on U.S. 35 and east on U.S. 30 back to State Road 23.

Reminder That Work Will Start Today on US 35 Railroad Crossing in Knox

Motorists are reminded that work will begin today on the US 35 railroad crossing in Knox. The Mayor’s Office recently issued a press release to alert residents that Norfolk Southern will be closing the crossing for repairs and maintenance.

This closure will be in effect beginning today, Monday, April 23rd at 8 a.m. Depending on weather conditions, the crossing is anticipated to re-open on Thursday, May 3rd at 5 p.m. Continue reading

Railroad Crossing Repairs Cause Road Closure

INDOT recently began some rail road crossing repairs that will cause a closure impacting commuters and residents of Starke County.

Norfolk Southern Railroad Company is renewing and repairing a railroad crossing near Knox, causing the closure of State Road 8 between County Road N. 100 E. and County Road N. 200 E.

This closure will last from Monday, September 18th until Friday, September 29th. Norfolk will only be closing this section of State road 8 for railroad crossing rehabilitation. Continue reading

U.S. 35 Railroad Repairs to be Conducted in April

 
 

Work will begin soon to repair the railroad crossing on Heaton Street or U.S. 35, in Knox.

Mayor Rick Chambers told the city council this week that he received several emails in the past two weeks from the Indiana Department of Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railroad. They’re waiting until the asphalt plants open up in April in order to form a plan of attack. There is no timeline of when the work will be complete.  They want to repair the crossing with a hot asphalt mix instead of applying cold patch. The hot mix will ensure a more permanent fix.

Railroad Crossing on 1000 East to Close for Two Weeks

 
 

A railroad crossing in Starke County will be closed for two weeks to allow Norfolk Southern to perform some minor crossing repairs. According to Railroad Coordinator Sandy Parisian, Norfolk Southern will be closing the crossing on County Road 1000 East, between county roads 225 North and 250 North, from Nov. 4 through Nov. 18.

There has been no official detour announced.
