Culver Town Council Approves Rezoning of 415 Lake Shore Drive on First Read

The Culver Town Council approved Ordinance 2022-003 -Rezone 415 Lake Shore Drive from Commercial to Planning Unit Development (PUD) on first read during the meeting Tuesday. The Culver Plan Commission favorably recommended the rezone after a public hearing and meeting held last month.

Starke County Commissioners Deny Request to Open More Land to Solar Development

The Starke County Commissioners denied a request Monday to make more land available for the Mammoth Solar Project near Bass Lake. A petition to rezone the Redlin property south of U.S. 35 was denied by a vote of two-to-one, with Mark Gourley opposing the motion. Rezoning the land from Commercial to Agriculture would have allowed for the placement of solar panels.

Starke County Commissioners to Revisit Solar Rezoning Request Today

Days after ground was broken on the Mammoth Solar Project, the Starke County Commissioners will consider zoning permission for some affected parcels south of Bass Lake. Earlier this month, the commissioners agreed to rezone the Rentka property west of U.S. 35 to Agriculture, but tabled a decision on the nearby Redlin property. Among other things, Agricultural zoning allows for the installation of solar panels.

North Judson Council Tables Rezoning Requests for Apartment Developments

It will be another couple weeks before the North Judson Town Council decides whether apartment and townhome developments will be able to move ahead. On Tuesday, council members tabled the planning commission’s recommendations to rezone the necessary properties to multifamily residential.

Starke County Plan Commission Postpones Solar Farm Hearing to Next Week

Bass Lake-area residents will have to wait until next week to weigh in on a rezoning request that would pave the way for a potential solar farm. A company called Starke Solar, LLC is asking Starke County to rezone more than 800 acres in California and North Bend townships on the south side of Bass Lake, mainly from residential to agricultural. That, in turn, would allow for the installation of solar panels.

Winamac Town Council Approves Rezoning for Vander Haag’s Expansion

A Winamac truck repair business’s expansion plans recently cleared a procedural hurdle with the town council. Town Manager Brad Zellers told council members that Vander Haag’s planned to purchase the neighboring property to the south, to add onto the current facility. The town council approved the business’s request to rezone the parcel from residential to light industrial.
