Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

 
 

A passenger in a vehicle that was stopped because it did not have a windshield ended up taking a ride in a police car. Starke County Sheriff’s Office Chief Detective Rob Olejniczak pulled over a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Shannon Watts of North Judson on 500 North at 750 East in Hamlet on Wednesday, May 26, according to a news release. Shannon Watts will not be facing any more formal charges in court as there were no weapons in the home he was in when officers arrived to take him to jail on an arrest warrant.

Officers were executing an arrest warrant at Watts’ residence in Born’s Trailer Park in North Judson on Tuesday, Aug. 13 and the Pulaski County SWAT Team was called into action when he refused to surrender. Continue reading

No additional charges have been filed against Shannon Watts, a man involved in an hour-long standoff with SWAT team members Tuesday at a home in Born’s Trailer Park. According to Starke County Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff, he has not yet received the paperwork required to determine whether or not additional charges are warranted, though he did say that a resisting law enforcement charge is likely. Whether that charge would be a felony or a misdemeanor is still undetermined.

Suspect in North Judson Standoff Has Lengthy Record

The North Judson man whose refusal to come to the door of his trailer when a sheriff’s deputy showed up with a warrant has a history of run-ins with the law. Shannon Watts was arrested in April of 2009 after reportedly trying to run over two police officers during a high-speed pursuit through Knox. A city police officer clocked him doing 81 in a 35 mph zone and tried to pull him over on U.S. 35, according to court documents. A pursuit around the northeast part of the city ensued, and Watts reportedly tried to run over two officers on Delaware Street. Officers from the Starke, LaPorte and Porter counties were all involved in the chase.

North Judson Man Arrested Following Standoff

An hour-long standoff between police and a wanted man outside a home in Born’s Trailer Park east of North Judson ended peacefully this afternoon. Detective Kenny Pfost with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office says officers tried to serve warrants on Shannon Watts for probation and parole violations. Pfost adds officers were told there were weapons inside the residence. Watts refused to come out of the trailer, so the officer who initially responded requested assistance from the SWAT team. Pfost says six officers surrounded the trailer while other members staged at the rest park on State Road 10 at county road 250 West. Continue reading
