Jerrod Hammond Sentenced to 20 Years in DOC; Steven Sandoval Receives Eight Year Sentence

 Two sentence hearings were held in Starke Circuit Court on Thursday.

Judge Kim Hall sentenced a man to the maximum prison term allowed for a charge with a Class B felony classification.

Jerrod Hammond pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the state to amended criminal information and a charge of Child Molestation as a Class B felony. Judge Hall sentenced Hammond to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with no part of the sentence suspended. A second count of Child Molestation as a Class D felony was dropped.

Three Arrested at Koontz Lake Home

 
 

A three-month investigation led to the arrest of three people in Hamlet on Monday.

Officers from the Hamlet Police Department, with the assistance of the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, executed a search warrant at 7733 N. Kickapoo in Walkerton where they found items from multiple burglaries that occurred in Hamlet.

Hamlet Police Department Recovers Stolen Vehicle

Hamlet Police Department officers recovered a stolen vehicle after a traffic stop Thursday night.

While on routine patrol, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of a truck that was stolen in the Knox area last week. Officers ran the plate through the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and it was confirmed as the stolen vehicle. Adam Makowski was arrested and charged with Theft Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Marijuana. Steven Sandoval was arrested and charged with Theft Receiving Stolen Property and False Informing.
