Washington Township School to be Demolished Tuesday

Washington Township SchoolThe Washington Township School will be demolished Tuesday.  Officials told WKVI News that the contractor has delayed the project by one day.

The building has been a safety issue in the area and could not be rehabilitated at a reasonable cost.

A volunteer contractor from Monterey will bring down the longtime fixture at the intersection of Division Road and State Road 23 in Starke County.

Washington Township School to be Demolished Monday

Washington Township SchoolThe Washington Township School, at the corner of Division Road and State Road 23, will be demolished on Monday, Nov. 10.

A volunteer contractor from Monterey is in charge of the demolition and debris removal.

For safety reasons, the Washington Township Park will be closed to the public until the demolition and cleanup is complete.  Availability of brick will be reviewed after the demolition begins.  Officials can decide if the bricks or other materials can be salvaged.

Washington Township Officials Gearing up for Spring

  
 
Washington Township officials are gearing up for two major events in the next two weeks.

Spring cleaning at the Eagle Creek and Lerch Cemeteries at the corner of 700 East and 25 North will be Sunday, April 28 beginning at 1 p.m. CT. You are asked to remove all times from graves. All items that are left will be removed for disposal.

On Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m., the Washington Township Board will hold a special meeting to go over the year-end report and accept bids for mowing at the Eagle Creek and Lerch Cemeteries. Bids will also be accepted for mowing at the Washington Township Elementary School and for the replacement of a concrete pad in front of the fire station.

Washington Twp. Board Holding Two Public Meetings This Month

The Washington Township Board will hold a public meeting tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT at the Washington Township Fire Station.

Trustee Shelly Kemble commented that the board will be discussing the 2010 and 2011 Audit Report, plus the 2013 budget along with the logging of woods east of the old elementary school and other items.

All residents are encouraged to attend to ask questions and voice concerns.

Another meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Washington Township Community Building at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the same items.
