RJ Link is looking at adding brick pillars on either side of Main Street as part of a proposed Eagle Scout project. He recently told the town’s park board that the idea is to form a gateway to the “swinging bridge.”

Memorial Swinging Bridge Project Gets Donations from LightStream, Winamac Lions

Donations continue coming in for Winamac’s Memorial Swinging Bridge Project. The goal is to install decorative lighting on the Town Park’s historic bridge in time for its centennial on July 4, 2023, when a large rededication ceremony is planned. The feature is expected to cost almost $275,000.

Winamac Park Board Welcomes New Park Manager, Prepares for Busy Summer

More people have been heading outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Winamac Town Park is proving to be a popular destination. During Thursday’s park board meeting, Board Secretary Kim Burke said she’s been getting five or six shelter reservations per day. Town manager and board member Brad Zellers added that there have even been some April reservations, something not typically seen.

Winamac Park Board to Meet Tonight

The Winamac Park Board will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight. The park board is currently planning for its annual Town Park cleanup day later this month, and efforts are underway to install a donated splash pad on a former grain elevator property. Tonight’s park board meeting is the first since the resignation of Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo and the appointment of Aaron Spanley as his replacement.

Memorial Swinging Bridge Project Celebrates $3,000 Donation

Efforts to add decorative lighting to the Winamac Town Park’s “swinging bridge” are starting to get some financial support. The Memorial Swinging Bridge Project says Bonnell Grain Handling became its first large donor back in December, with a $3,000 check presentation. The goal is to install the lighting feature in time for the bridge’s centennial on July 4, 2023, when a large rededication ceremony is planned.

Drive-Through Food Distributions Scheduled in North Judson, Winamac on Mar. 16

Area food banks will be making visits to North Judson and Winamac tomorrow, March 16. A drive-through food distribution will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church at 810 West Talmer Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to noon CDT, according to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana’s website. Items will be available on a first come, first served basis for those in need of food assistance.

Work Planned to Improve Winamac Town Park’s Appearance

The Winamac Town Park will be getting some cosmetic upgrades over the coming months. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo told the Winamac Park Board Thursday that he’s planning to hire a company for a tree maintenance project after the first of the year. That will include removing two dying silver maples near the entrance gate and trimming the trees by the softball diamond, among other work.

Winamac Park Board to Continue Pickleball Discussion, Get Update on Bridge Lighting

The Winamac pickleball debate is expected to continue during tonight’s park board meeting. To accommodate growing demand, pickleball players want the shared tennis and pickleball court at the Town Park to be re-equipped exclusively for pickleball. But some of the park board members wanted more time to look into options for keeping tennis somewhere in the park.

Solar Project Opponents Draw Crowd to Winamac Town Park

Opponents of a proposed solar energy development rallied support Thursday, ahead of an upcoming vote by the Pulaski County Board of Zoning Appeals. Dozens gathered at the Winamac Town Park to hear about some potential drawbacks of the 4,500-acre Mammoth Solar project. Concerns included fire protection, property values, and the proposed development’s size.
