Knox Mayor Hopes to Reopen City Skate Park Soon

A popular amenity in Wythogan Park should be open again this spring. The skate park closed last July amid safety concerns over the wood ramps. During a recent appearance on WKVI’s “Grossman in the Morning” Mayor Dennis Estok said upgrade plans are in the works as the Knox Park Board’s funds allow. Starke County rolled out the red carpet to welcome the Indiana Bicentennial Torch last evening. It visited Bass Lake, North Judson, Toto and Knox on its journey. Along the way it was carried by 20 notable community members on everything from a steam train to an antique fire truck to a bicycle before being placed in the  Knox Volunteer Fire Department’s rescue boat for its final stop at Wythogan Park. Bicentennial Torch Celebration Planned Tonight at Wythogan Park

torchrealy_logo_final-00000002Starke County will mark its place in Indiana history today when the state bicentennial torch comes through the county. Celebration coordinator Dave Pearman says the intent of the 92 county torch relay and yearlong observance is to have every Hoosier take part in the festivities. The torch will come up U.S. 35 from Pulaski into Starke County around 4:30 p.m. CDT and will be shepherded through 20 marked spots by prominent members of the community or their representatives. Starke County Park Board Reevaluating Five-Year Plan

starke-county-courthouseEfforts to create a five-year plan for Starke County park facilities have hit a bit of an obstacle. The Starke County Park Board had been discussing the possibility of getting a grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to help pay for the planning process. But to qualify for the grant, the county would have to prove that residents’ incomes fall beneath a certain threshold. Continue reading
