Two Men Sentenced in Starke Circuit Court

Two sentences were handed down in the Starke Circuit Court yesterday morning, sentencing the men to stays in the Department of Corrections. Zachary Tomerlin and Sammy Bottorff were both sentenced in court on felony charges.

Tomerlin was sentenced to a total of 36 months in the Department of Corrections on charges of Possession of a Narcotic Drug and Resisting Law Enforcement. He was arrested in August and found to be in possession of a narcotic drug and intentionally fled on foot from an officer.

Knox Man Sentenced for Theft, Auto Theft

A Knox man received his sentence in the Starke Circuit Court this week after he pleaded guilty to charges of Auto Theft as a Class D felony and Theft as a Class D felony following his arrest on March 8, 2012.

Zachary Tomerlin, 19, faced two cases in the Starke Circuit Court; the charges of Theft stemmed from an incident in March when police received a report of subjects stealing scrap metal from a barn in Starke County. An investigation into the matter led police to arrest Tomerlin and Daniel Bradley, 21, for the theft.

Knox Man Arrested On Auto Theft Charges

A Knox man was arrested for the theft of an automobile after an accident in Starke County on Saturday, May 19.

At 5 a.m., officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department were called to an accident on 50 South, just east of 200 East. A witness told police that the driver fled the scene, and officers were unable to locate the suspect.

Later that morning, a woman reported her car stolen from her friend’s home on Toto Road, west of 700 East.

Starke County police continued to investigate the incident and found that it was Zachary Tomerlin of Knox who allegedly took the vehicle from the Toto Road residence. Tomerlin was arrested on Tuesday, May 22, on a preliminary charge of Auto Theft.
