Meet the Candidates in the Hamlet Town Board Ward 2 Race

Today our 2011 Campaign Spotlight turns to a Board race in Hamlet. The candidates are Democrat Dean Goble and Republican Dave Kesvormas.

Dean Goble is a lifelong resident of Hamlet. He attended schools in the Oregon-Davis School system. He is married and has 3 children and 4 stepchildren, and is a painter working out of Union Local 460 in Merrillville.

Dave Kesvormas has lived in Hamlet since 1984, when he was discharged from the Navy. He is a 1989 graduate of Knox High School and is an Executive Chef, the Starke County Contract Health Inspector, and is involved with a Health Care Company. He’s married with two children attending the Oregon-Davis School system.

We asked Dean Goble why he decided to run for the office.

“I’ve been a lifelong resident of the town of Hamlet and I would just like to see what I can do for our town,” said Goble.

We posed the same question to Dave Kesvormas.

“I was on the board for seven-and-a-half years. I replaced Todd Lienbach when he went on to be the County Highway Superintendent. One of the things I really enjoyed about the town was the effectiveness of getting grants and moving the town forward. We’re seeing some things stand idle and I know there is some progress but there’s always room to make more progress.”

Goble was asked what he would like to see done in Hamlet.

“If I get elected, I’d like to see more paved roads and sidewalks, extend the storm drains, make adjustments with the Street Department and Police Department,” said Goble. “I promise that I will do what I can for the town. I’d like to see more people attend the Town Board meetings to express their opinion.”

Kesvormas responded to the same question.

“I think attracting businesses or getting people back to work are my bigger goals of anything,” said Kesvormas. I think an elected official should probably start looking at, as part of the role, being the advocate to the corporate world in bringing more jobs and bringing the opportunities.”
