Knox Band Director, Craige Phipps, requested permission from the School Board for a band trip in 2013. Superintendent A.J. Gappa talks about the proposed trip.
“The band would like to take a trip to Orlando, Florida, to visit all of the Disney World theme parks,” said Gappa. “They will do performances at different times, both marching and on-stage performances. It looks like an educational and fun trip combined. The Board did give permission for the music department to take that trip so they can start making arrangements and start saving up their money.”
Mr. Gappa says the students will have an interesting stop on the way back.
“They will stop at Mammoth Caves in Kentucky as part of the educational part of that trip. The last time the band went on a trip was in 2007 and adding the Mammoth Caves to that just gives a different outlook on the trips they’ve taken in the past.”
To help the students pay for the trip, the Band Boosters will be scheduling several fundraisers, including this one on April 23rd in the Weinberg Gymnasium.
“They’re going to have a basketball game. They’re bringing in the Harlem Wizards to play some local area players that will represent the Band Boosters. That will be on a Monday in April and more information will be forthcoming.”
