Valparaiso Hostage Situation Comes To An End; Hostages OK, Gunman Dead

An intense hostage situation in Valparaiso ended when police say the gunman who held hostages at an Indiana real estate office died after he was taken to a hospital for self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Valparaiso police Sgt. Michael Grennes says the gunman shot himself twice during a standoff at the Prudential Executive Group Real Estate office yesterday.

The gunman had reportedly gone to the office looking for someone who he thought owed him money, and police say he then held employees hostage inside the building. The last two hostages were released unharmed several hours later.
SWAT team members stormed the office less than two hours after all the last hostages were released. Two gunshots were heard before the officers broke through the windows and rushed inside and found him suffering from two self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
