Maxinkuckee Players Gearing Up For Opening Night

The Maxinkuckee Players will be taking on one of their biggest challenges yet as they prepare for their opening night of Crazy For You at Culver High School. Three of the Players were in the WKVI studios yesterday to talk about the musical play, and Gregg Underwood – who will be playing Bobby Child and Bela Zangler in the play – says it’s a tough show, but they’re ready.

“This is probably one of the biggest challenges that the Players have taken on,” said Underwood. “Lot of choreography, lot of dancing, and we were able to recruit some really talented younger individuals this year that have just stepped up to the plate and are just knocking it out of the park.”

Assistant Director Kathy Overmyer says the production consists of a mix of music and comedy with a great storyline. Player Brian Liechty says there’s a lot of dry wit and subtle one-liners, and the more the audience pays attention, the more of that humor they’ll pick up on.

Opening night is Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Culver High School, and it will also take place on Sunday at 4 p.m. Other performances are Wednesday, August 1, Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The last performance will be on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Crazy For You is a romantic comedy musical in which New York meets the small western town of Dead Rock, Nevada, featuring music by George Gershwin. It was originally billed as “The New Gershwin Musical Comedy,” and won the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical.
