NASCAR driver Tony Stewart will not participate in a meet and greet that was scheduled at the Newton Center in Lakeville on Thursday.
Officials at the Newton Center said that anyone who has already purchased tickets will receive a refund. Contact the Newton Center at (574) 784-2749 for details.
Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, schedules an annual appearance in August at the facility to meet with fans and to promote the Little Hoosier 100 in which hundreds of kids participate every year. He opted to cancel his appearance surrounding a sprint car accident that occurred at a New York dirt track on Saturday night. The accident in which Stewart was involved resulted in the death of 20-year-old Kevin Ward, Jr.
Tony Stewart has withdrawn his intent to race in the Bob Newton Hoosier Tire Classic at Plymouth Speedway on Saturday. The Sprints on Dirt Series drivers will still race and more information about the weekend’s racing features will be released soon by track officials.
