Hamlet Participating in 50-50 Sidewalk Replacement Program

Hamlet residents who want to replace their sidewalks can do so at a discounted rate if they opt to take part in the 50-50 sidewalk replacement program. The town will pay half the cost for materials and labor for participating property owners. Funds are available on a first-come, first served basis.

Applications are due to the Hamlet Clerk-Treasurer’s office by 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The town street superintendent will measure and inspect the request and approve or disapprove the work order. After the town awards a bid for the work, each property owner who applies and is accepted into the program will be notified of the cost. Participants must pay their half of the cost before construction will begin. Their money is due within 14 days of notification. If they do not pay within that time period, their project will be placed on the bottom of the work schedule. The contractor will be paid after the street superintendent inspects the completed work.

The town also invites prospective contractors to register by 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 at at the town hall to bid on the 2014 residential/business sidewalk replacement program. Contractors who register will be required to provide proof of insurance.
