A discount store chain with locations in Starke and Pulaski Counties is going out of business. Alco Stores is closing all of its 198 locations. The Coppell, Texas-based company filed for bankruptcy protection in the Northern District of Texas on Oct. 12 with the help of a bankruptcy attorney.
The chain will sell more than $260 million worth of inventory, fixtures and equipment during the bankruptcy liquidation sale, which starts today. It will continue until all merchandise is sold. A time frame for the sale to conclude was not given. Alco operates stores in Knox and Winamac as well as locations in Demotte and Lowell. Company officials say all stores will maintain normal business hours during the liquidation sale. Cash and all major credit cards will still be accepted.
