West Central Receives High Ability Grant

West Central School CorporationThe West Central School Corporation has gotten grant funding to help teachers continue to meet the challenges of teaching high-ability students.

Superintendent Don Street says the school board voted Thursday to accept the grant from the Indiana Department of Education, “It’s a $28,000 grant, and we use quite a bit of that money for our staff to receive training and for instructional purposes. There will be several of our staff members that attend a high ability conference down at Indianapolis in a few weeks.” He says the training will help teachers push high-ability students so they can continue to advance.

Additionally, Street says high school students will have a few more options when choosing classes next year, “There’s some courses that we’ve added to the Course Description Book in the English Department, such as Novels and Etymology, some classes that are one-semester courses that will provide more detail for our juniors and seniors. We also had just a few prerequisite changes for some of our courses, as well as Manufacturing – a few classes were added in that area, Advanced Manufacturing.”

The school board voted to approve the updates to the 2016-2017 Course Description Book.
