Downtown Revitalization Projects to Start in Hamlet

Hamlet Fall 5The downtown revitalization program for Hamlet was given a green light last night for starting Phase I of the project. This step includes some 200-feet of new sidewalk and curb and the installation of three new antique street lights. In another improvement program, a 50-50 sidewalk and handicap ramp was approved for installation at the Hamlet American Legion.

An amendment of the curfew ordinance will be considered for approval at the Board’s next meeting. The draft will set a 10 p.m. “off the streets” rule for those under 18 years old in the Town Park and within the town limits.

Two new part-time police officers were approved for hire. A current officer has resigned and a second man is expected to do so as well due to time conflicts with their full-time work.

The Hamlet Park Board is considering the installation of video security systems for the Town Park and the Town Hall areas. Other action include a $1,000 support of the Yellowstone Trail Festival, the purchase of two benches for the park area, the purchase of Bicentennial hats and installation of new signs listing the hours of park operation.
