Residents to Receive Update on Winamac Pool Project

winamacAnother meeting will be held this evening to give Winamac residents an update on the town’s community pool project. Much like the first meeting held in November, it will be a chance for residents to offer their ideas for the new pool. Project organizers will also discuss some of the progress that’s been made over the past few months, as well as their plans for the pool’s construction and eventual operation.

One of the biggest changes impacting the project is the recent establishment of a Winamac Park Board. Not only is the park board expected to oversee the pool eventually, but town officials hope it will open up opportunities for grant funding that aren’t currently available.

The pool project is expected to cost a total of $600,000. While the Pool Committee has been raising funds from local residents and businesses to rebuild the pool, the Town of Winamac has decided to contribute $150,000 to the effort. Last week, the town council approved some of the funding arrangements by transferring that money from the town’s Economic Development Income Tax Fund to its General Fund. Keeping the money in the town’s account rather than placing it in the fund set aside for the project at the Community Foundation of Pulaski County will let the town continue to earn interest on that money.

In addition to its $150,000 monetary contribution, the town’s also promised to have its employees do about $150,000 worth of construction work. The rest of the funding is coming from grants, fundraisers, and private donations.

Tonight’s informational meeting will take place at 7:00 at the Winamac Fire Station on Main Street.
