LaPorte County Crash Claims Three Lives

Officials with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a fatal accident. It happened around 7 a.m. on U.S. 20 at County Road 300 East, about a mile west of Rolling Prairie.

Preliminary information indicates the three people in the westbound passenger vehicle were killed, and the driver of the semi was not injured. Freezing rain and sleet were falling at the time of the crash, and temperatures were near freezing.

No determination has been made yet as to the cause of the crash or who was at fault. Additionally the LaPorte County Coroner is working to identify the victims and ensure their families receive appropriate notification.

This is the second triple fatal crash on U.S. 20 in as many months. On January 17, three people were killed less than three miles west of today’s crash site. That wreck occurred on the heels of a double fatality on U.S. 20 on the evening of Jan. 16th.

This is a developing story, and we will have more information as it is available from authorities.
