Knox Officials Crafting Updated Illegal Dumping Ordinance

Knox officials are putting the final touches on a revised ordinance to crack down on illegal dumping within the city limits. It will be ready for consideration at their Tuesday, June 27 meeting.

It will impose more severe fines on anyone caught dumping trash or other materials in Wythogan Park or at the compost pile behind city hall. Officials note the latter is for Knox residents only, but concede the two-mile jurisdiction for zoning purposes is confusing.

Recently there have been reports of people disposing of large amounts of animal waste in the trash cans at the park, which in part led to the ordinance revision.

The community drop-off recycling bins behind city hall were removed a little more than a week ago due to excessive trash dumping at the site.
