Knox Transportation Director Works to Get School New Buses at Best Cost

The Knox Community School Board approved the purchase of two new school buses during their meeting Monday evening. The school corporation has $319,282 allotted for bus replacement. The bus replacement budget has to be separate from the transportation budget since money in that budget can only go toward fuel, repairs and paying personnel.

According to Transportation Director Mark Jensen, the school will receive $2,800 for trading in a 1996 bus and a 2005 Blue Bird Model with a bad CAT engine. The trade-in money will go towards the purchase and an additional $200,782 will come out of the bus replacement budget.

The buses will be purchased from the Blue Bird Corporation, the company that provided the most trade-in money for the old buses and the lowest cost for the new buses. Both new buses will contain Cummins engines which meet current emission standards.
