Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department Requests Budget Transfer, Due to Uncertainties in Utility Budget

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department wants to make sure it has enough money to pay utility bills.

Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county commissioners Monday that his department covers all the gas, electric, and water bills for the Justice Center. The problem is that the Sheriff’s Department isn’t exactly sure how much money is in the account. “We knew that this account got cut some in this budget year,” Richwine said. “So we knew we were going to run short, but we don’t know when it’s going to happen because we don’t have access to some reports.”

Richwine said he doesn’t know why his staff isn’t getting all the financial information, but it would make it a lot easier to keep track of money and make sure it’s going in the right place. In the meantime, the sheriff is asking to transfer $43,000 from several line items into the electric, water, and gas budget.

The commissioners voiced their support for that and several other budget transfer requests, during Monday’s meeting.
