Knox Board of Works Gets Update on Downtown Building Repairs

The Knox Board of Works members got an update on repairs being made to 1 and 3 N. Main Street in downtown Knox.

Knox Planning Administrator and Director of Building and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost told the board members that a timeline was provided for repairs. Building Owner Pete Milev was given until May 2018 to complete extensive repairs to the exterior masonry and interior violations. Pfost said he mailed the timeline to Milev by certified mail on Dec. 12, but it has not been returned with a signature.

Pfost commented that he discussed the same paperwork with Milev over the phone and Milev said he felt singled out. Pfost said there wasn’t any new information given to him that wasn’t discussed in last month’s public meeting.

He has until Jan. 12 to complete a simple list of repairs which includes the replacement of the window in the store front, which has been done, remove the exterior sign and smaller indoor issues. Pfost said he’s started to make progress, but it’s slow.

City Attorney Leslie Baker reminded the board that this is under continuous enforcement and Milev should appear before the board at the January meeting to provide a progress report.

The board did unanimously approve the timeline as provided by Pfost and will require Milev to appear at the Jan. 23 Knox Board of Works meeting to give an update on repairs.
