Winamac Town Council to Hold Public Hearing Over Water Rates Tonight

A public hearing will be held over adjustments to water rates in Winamac prior to the regularly scheduled town council meeting tonight. The council’s regular session will commence immediately following the public hearing which is set for 6 p.m. ET.

During the clerk-treasurer’s report, the council will hold the second reading over the water rate ordinance. Adjustments to the water rates are being proposed in order to help cover costs for the town’s water project.

A public hearing over the water project was held back in August where it was revealed that the $1.5 million project will include new ten inch wells and well houses, two river borings, and a 7,000 foot extension of the water line in order to connect it to the water plant and the new wells.

Town council members will also hold the second reading over the amended salary ordinance. This ordinance deals specifically with changes to the park board secretary’s salary and the starting pay for employees of the electric department who are licensed journeyman.

The clerk-treasurer is also scheduled to present a resolution over the reconcilement of the local option income tax fund. Department heads and the town manager will deliver reports to the council as well.

Both the public hearing and town council meeting will be held at the Winamac Utilities Complex at 623 W. 11th Street. Click the following link to view the 2017 Water Rate Adjustment Ordinance before tonight’s public hearing.
