Pulaski County Commissioners Choose Paving Contractor for Community Crossings Projects

The Pulaski County Commissioners have once again taken action to chose a paving contractor for several miles of hot mix asphalt work. Town & Country Paving was selected by the commissioners Tuesday to resurface County Road 200 South from U.S. 421 to State Road 39 and County Road 400 East from 200 North to 400 North.

Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff recommended Town & Country, in spite of the fact that its bid was not the lowest. “At our last meeting, we had three bids, E & B, Town & Country, Central Paving,” he explained. “E & B was the cheapest, and after we’d done some reviewing on it, we’d done some figuring, and we found out that their tonnage was a lot lower, too, than Town & Country.” He explained that going by unit price, E & B actually ended up being the most expensive.

Central Paving had actually been contracted to do the work, but the commissioners later repealed that decision to allow the projects to be bid out formally. Town & Country’s bid came in at just over $968,000. Seventy-five percent of that is expected to be covered by a Community Crossings grant from the state.
