Pulaski County Commissioners Open Paving, Dump Truck Bids

Pulaski County now has three contractors interested in doing several miles of paving work, as part of the state’s Community Crossings program. The county commissioners had approved a contract with Central Paving of Logansport for nearly $1.2 million, but they later repealed that decision to allow the project to be bid out formally.

When the bids were opened Tuesday, Central Paving’s ended up being the highest, even though it was almost $27,000 less than their previous quote. E & B Paving gave the lowest bid at just under $886,000, while Town & Country Paving offered to do the work for just over $968,000.

The project calls for hot mix asphalt work on County Road 200 South from U.S. 421 to State Road 39 and County Road 400 East from 200 North to 400 North. Up to 75 percent of the cost of the work would be covered by state grant funding.

Also during Tuesday’s commissioners meeting, bids were opened for a new dump truck for the Pulaski County Highway Department. The three bids ranged from just over $128,000 to more than $132,000. The county also got one bid for a dump truck “Up Fit.” It came from Terry Truck Equipment for just over $62,000.

Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff will review all those bids, and make recommendations to the commissioners at their next meeting.
