Kankakee Valley REMC, Jasper County REMC Looking into Consolidation

Two neighboring not-for-profit electric cooperatives are looking to join forces to benefit cooperative memberships, the employees and the communities they serve.

Kankakee Valley REMC and Jasper County REMC have worked successfully together for a number of years and the boards of directors are conducting a thorough financial evaluation before coming to a possible agreement, according to REMC officials.

Jasper County REMC CEO Bryan Washburn said in press release that the consolidation would allow for a “…greater economy of sale, spreading costs over more members and having control over operating costs.” Jasper County REMC serves members in Jasper, White, Starke, Pulaski, Porter and Newton Counties.

Kankakee Valley REMC CEO Dennis Weiss commented that the employees would be retained and the pair could expand services. Kankakee Valley REMC serves members in Lake, Porter, La Porte, Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, and St. Joseph Counties.

More detailed information concerning discussions can be found online, Facebook or Twitter, as well as the monthly magazine, Electric Consumer, which is available to members of both entities.
