At the Kankakee Valley REMC Annual Meeting of the Membership, the company will be celebrating 79 years of providing safe, reliable electric power to rural Northwestern Indiana with a night of family-friendly fun open to all members.
The meeting will take place tomorrow, on Tuesday, April 10th, at the Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the business portion of the meeting will commence at 6:30 p.m.
A high voltage safety demonstration will be presented and members will have a chance to win prizes. The grand prize of the evening will be a $4,000 vacation voucher.
A meal and entertainment will be provided. The event will feature a live performance by the band State Line Drive. The band was apparently formed when twin brothers Mason and Micah Marrs from Missouri teamed up with Joel and Jordan Mills from Kansas. Their set consists of mostly country music, as well as a mix of pop and rock from the 80’s to today. A magic show, balloon art and face painting will also be available for the kids.
The meeting portion of the event will feature speeches by the cooperative’s leadership team. This year, the cooperative is embarking on the opportunity to potentially join forces with Jasper County REMC, so members will have a chance to learn more about the consolidation.
Kankakee Valley REMC CEO Dennis Weiss stated that three directors will be elected to lead the cooperative on the board of directors. He said one benefit of being a member is having a direct voice in how the cooperative operates and annually voting on member representation is one unique way for members to be a part of the decisions that shape the future of the cooperative.
