Pulaski County Plan Commission to Research Changes to Unified Development Ordinance Tonight

The Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission will begin working on updates to the county’s Unified Development Ordinance tonight. Concerns about a possible wind farm development have led county officials to consider reviewing the county’s zoning regulations. Pulaski County has recently hired an attorney who specializes in wind energy to help with the process.

At the same time, the Pulaski County Election Board is calling for the county to repeal the section of the Unified Development Ordinance dealing with campaign signs or “special signs.” Election board members feel there are already enough rules at the state and federal levels to regulate campaign signs, without additional zoning restrictions.

Tonight’s Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission work session starts at 6:00 p.m. EDT at the Winamac Municipal Utilities Complex. In a Facebook post Thursday, county officials said tonight’s work session is strictly for the purpose of reviewing and discussing proposed changes to the Unified Development Ordinance. No public comment will be taken, and no final action is expected.

Based on the results of tonight’s discussion, a proposal will be released to the public. The plan commission will then accept comments during their May 29 meeting, before making a final decision. It would then go to the county commissioners for consideration in June.
