A few Hamlet residents have complained to the Hamlet Police Department about a phone scam.
Hamlet Town Marshal Clint Norem said the call is made by a robot or a person with a foreign dialect that claims to be calling from the IRS. The caller is seeking personal information that may include banking or social security information.
Norem reminds residents that the IRS will never call you. If you believe you may owe taxes, call the IRS directly.
