One local woman, Jennifer Evans, explained that her brother Tyler Fox is a Marine who passed suddenly in December. She said her brother was an avid runner and to honor his memory, friends and family members formed their own group, Run Like a Fox.

She explained, “Through that running group we have run several races together in honor of him. One of his brothers who he served with him in Kings Bay, Georgia has been involved with Run for the Fallen in the past and recommned that we seek a memorial mile in his honor.”

Evans explained that Tyler’s mile is technically in Virgina but since many friends and family members won’t be able to make it out there, local individuals will gather tomorrow when the race passes thorough Pulaski County.

She said there is a mile maker stationed on IN-14 near the Eagles building in Winamac. Around 11:30 a.m. Eastern, a list of fallen service members will be recognized there.

The run individually recognizes nearly 20,000 Service Members who have fallen since the USS Cole bombing in October of 2000. It spans across 6,000 miles, over 19 states in 5 months. Starting in Fort Irwin, California, it began on April 7th and it will come to a close in the Arlington National Cemetery on August 5th.
