District 4 Knox City Council Member to be Determined at Tonight’s Caucus, Council Meeting to Follow

The caucus to find a replacement for the open District 4 Knox City Council seat will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Starke County Democrat Chairman Kenny Wallace shared that the three individuals submitted a letter of interest before the deadline. Those candidates will be considered and whoever is selected will be sworn in immediately following the caucus. They will be able to attend their first meeting as a member tonight.

The regularly scheduled city council meeting will commence at 7 p.m. Members are expected to hold a public hearing over a request from J.W. Hicks Inc. to designate a portion of their property as an economic revitalization area. Once the hearing is closed, a resolution on the matter will be up for approval.

Members will also consider a waste management contract, a recommendation from the Planning Commission and an amendment to the ordinance over street sweeping routes.

Representatives from the Starke County Economic Development Foundation will be present. Aside from providing assistance with the economic revitalization area request, it’s likely that they will also gauge the council’s willingness to officially come on board with a local Stellar effort.

The caucus and meeting will both be held in Knox City Hall at 101 West Washington Street.
