Francesville Town Council Establishes Board of Zoning Appeals

Now that a planning commission has been established in the Town of Francesville, the town council members formally approved the creation of a board of zoning appeals.

Francesville Clerk-Treasurer Linda Bennett said the final step in the process to put together a planning commission was finalized in May and Attorney Justin Schramm presented the town council members with documents to establish a board of zoning appeals this week. Bennett said those documents were unanimously approved. She added that a BZA was formed previously, but not properly.

The next step is to find residents to fill the positions on the planning commission. The Francesville Planning Commission will consist of three town council members, four town council appointed members, and two members appointed by the Pulaski County Commissioners. The terms will stagger beginning June 1, 2018. Bennett said some of the same people who previously held positions may be asked to return.

Once the members are appointed, the first meeting can be scheduled. One of the first subjects the Francesville Planning Commission may tackle is a wind turbine ordinance. They may pattern it after the proposed amendment to Pulaski County’s Unified Development Ordinance, but final wording to the county’s amendment has not been determined.
