Knox School Board Approves 2018-2019 Student Handbooks

The Knox School Board approved the 2018-2019 student handbooks last week.

Among other changes, the elementary school handbook was updated to reflect the new student drop-off and pickup procedures that were implemented over the past year.

Incoming Middle School Principal Jake Skelly told the school board he took some items that worked at the high school and added them to the middle school handbook. He said the goal is to give students and parents clear expectations.

One of the big changes to the high school handbook is a new bell schedule. It gives students a 30-minute lunch, according to Principal Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff. She said she also tried to bring the school’s policies more in line with those at the middle school. Ratliff explained that while each school might have different ways of handling a particular situation, the rules themselves will be very similar. She said she also cleaned up the school’s disciplinary policies.
