Knox City Police Chief Discusses New Hire with Board of Works Members

Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith offered a recommendation for a new hire when Board of Works members met Wednesday morning.

Smith asked the board to approve hiring Chuck Leonhardt. He mentioned that Leonhardt would be replacing officer Chad Keen who left about 6 weeks ago.

Board member Steve Dodge said after reviewing the applicant’s credentials, he found him to be a suitable candidate. Members went on to unanimously approve the new hire.

Additionally, Chief Smith noted that Officer Daniel Byrd submitted his resignation on July 12th, citing a once in a lifetime job opportunity as his reason for leaving the force. His last day as a police officer for the City of Knox was Monday, July 20th.

Smith said that officials with the police department will be reviewing the applications that were submitted during this most recent hiring process to find someone to fill the open position.
