Winamac Park Board Considers Potential Art Project at the Park

Winamac Park Board members considered a request for a potential art project at the park when they met on Thursday.

Park Board member Brad Zellers said that a woman came into the Town Manager’s office, asking if a group of students would be permitted to paint the animal spring-riders at the park.

The board members immediately mentioned that those rides will be taken out when the park improvements are tackled in the future. Zellers said he didn’t think that would impact their desire to take on the project.

Members also noted that if the group of kids do the project, they want to ensure the students are utilizing paint that is safe to use and that will stick to equipment effectively.

Board member Jon Chapman asked if there was any other equipment that they would like to see painted instead. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo stated that there are some benches around the big play set that need to be painted.

Zellers noted that the individual who came in expressed an interest in the spring-riders because the group noticed that they’re faded. Members noted that equipment may also give them a bit more of a creative challenge than the benches.

Members said they approve of the painting project as long as the students are aware that that equipment will be removed when the park renovations take place next year.

Park Board President Courtney Poor mentioned that since Delarenzo indicated that the benches also need to be painted, they can start exploring some options to get that done as well.
