Winamac Town Manager Discusses Updated Job Description for Electric Department With Town Council Members

Winamac Town Council members were asked to consider some changes to the job description provided for Electric Department employees when they met last Monday.

Town Manager Brad Zellers explained that some adjustments were made to how certifications are listed and he adapted the town’s policy to reflect the changes.

He told members, “It’s all changed, the way the program works for the apprenticeship. It goes through until they get to number five which is the top out test which is what they take to become a journeyman.” He continued, “It didn’t use to be set up that way so I listed it in here as the actual steps of how to achieve that.”

Electric Department Supervisor Doug Shorter noted that the existing descriptions were about 25 years old and were no longer applicable to the field. He said the new one does a better job of laying out what is required and rewarding the employees for completing the various different levels of training as they work toward their journeyman license.

Members took a unanimous vote to amend the town’s job description to include the updated guidelines.
