Pulaski County Election Board to Request $600 Raise for Clerk

Pulaski County Clerk Christi Hoffa would get a pay raise for her duties with the county election board, under its 2019 budget proposal. Hoffa reviewed the proposal with the rest of the election board Monday. She explained that much of the budget work was done before board members Jon Frain and Laura Bailey were replaced by Patty Sullivan and Jessye Gilley.

“The election board members’ pay has been $1,000 per year for each Republican and Democrat member,” Hoffa said, “and then in the past, it has been $1,400 for the clerk. The prior board is asking for an increase in my portion. They tried it last year. We thought it got approved, and then when budgets went through, it did not get approved. I’m not sure exactly what happened. So they are asking to increase mine from $1,400 to $2,000 per year.”

She also explained that next year’s budget will be a little smaller than this year’s, since 2019 will be a municipal election year. Only Medaryville and Monterey are expected to have offices up for election. The towns would have to share a portion of the cost, if there are any contested races. Winamac and Francesville have both moved their election cycles to coincide with the county’s, while Medaryville is in the process of doing that.

Hoffa is scheduled to discuss the election board’s 2019 budget proposal with the county council this afternoon.
