Crews Working on Knox City Street Design

Crews are working on the Knox downtown street design.

Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told the Knox Board of Works members Wednesday morning that workers from Globe Asphalt Paving Company, Inc. in Indianapolis are at the intersection of Lake and Main Streets working on installing the city’s emblem there.

Borg said the project is moving at a slower pace due to cooler asphalt temperatures but the first part of the street design was expected to be done by the end of the day Thursday.

According to a company representative, an asphalt warmer heats the pavement up to 350 degrees where the crosswalk design is stamped into the pavement. Then it is heated up to 350 degrees to meld the stencils in the street. The center part of the design won’t be installed until the spring.
